So That Happened.

We were busy last weekend.

We really enjoyed talking to Lindsey Dolich, even though we had to speak ill of her employer in the same breath.  We marked the scourge of Barry Bonds, enjoyed a basketball game greatly, and wondered aloud about Jessica Simpson.  We also indulged ourselves more than a bit.  

In the interest of full disclosure, we also were kind of an idiot.

Then we closed out with Allan Sherman, which all good weekends should.

Thanks to all of you that checked in with tips, comments, and encouraging words.  We’ll take that every weekend and twice on Sundays.  We’ll check in later this week with news about our next liveblog.  Excelsior!

It’s Not the Heat Because We Have Air Conditioning

We’re back.

We just dropped a four-spot on SPORTSbyBROOKS and will return tomorrow for more tasty tidbits about Beijing bound to give you the revenge of Confucius.  Also, we did a drop (radio term!) for the Treehouse Fort last week and snuggled a piece or two into the Big Tilde family of posts during our absence. All of this can be spotted on the right, as per the norm.

We may try to post a few items during the next week, but that’s to be determined.  We’re a fair blogger, but this fucking heat is making us absolutely crazy.

Finally, we don’t think we’re giving too much away at this point to note that next weekend will involve posting for our new gig.  You may have heard something about it.

Thanks to all for your patience; we’ll get this fridge chilled to the appropriate extremity-threatening temperature shortly.

Where’s Tuffy?

Oh, you know; just hangin’ with J.D. Salinger.  Kickin’ it.

Sorry about the Ice Machine’s disappearance; we had to take it back to the store.  Apparently, you have to feed it water to make the ice.  That seems an awful lot like work to us.

Also, we’re undergoing a few changes around these parts.  For example, these aren’t going to be our parts for long.  We’re taking a new job and moving across the country in the next few days.  Therefore, we’ve taken a bit of a hiatus from blogging.  However, we’ll be back soon enough.  (After all, we’ve got Deadspin duty in August.)  

What will this mean for your friendly neighborhood blog-slinger?  More weekends, probably, and fewer weekday gigs.  It also probably means a different focus for this here blog.  The Ice Machine came about from leftover links from daily SPORTSbyBROOKS searches.  We won’t have as many of those anymore, so no more Ice Machine.  (Told you it sounded like work.)

That’s all TBD, though.  We’re still sorting all of this out (not to mention the cross-country caravan et al).  Until then, you can still find us in a few watering holes.  We’ll be posting to The Big Tilde soon enough.  We’ve been doing podcasts; there’s one more tonight before we take a couple weeks off from that as well.  We also did another Voodoo Sabermetrics for Babes Love Baseball today.  (Please check this out; this feature is one of our favorite writing tasks.)  Our Twitter gets the occasional quick hit as well.

Ice Machine - Mojitos for Everyone!

• We’re going off the reservation for a few days starting tomorrow, but we’ll be back Tuesday.  We will not be at the Deadspin shindig, sadly; please make sure Leitch doesn’t have to buy a single drink the whole weekend.  However, we have purchased an all-silk ensemble for the weekend.  
• Please do us another favor; we’re leaving the back gate open for Chitown Chick to host a live blog for UFC 85.  It’s yet another event we’re sorry we’ll miss this weekend, but we encourage you to check back in Saturday starting at 3 pm ET.
• Speaking of, we don’t care about Evander Holyfield’s latest money woes, but check out the link itself.  When did SI reorganize its site to create an “MMA and Boxing” category?  When did boxing slide behind the UFC et al?  The world, she is different than when she first nursed me, non?
• We love ”I Spy”.  The article downplays some of the show’s strengths to make its point, but that doesn’t make it any less true.
• Look, if Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney can be a hit, why not Sandra O’Connor: Jammin’ Justice?  (We’ve already assumed it’s a rhythm game since the Supreme Court is now desperate to bring back the rhythm method.)
• Texas Gal always knows the real scoop behind Red Sox antics.
• Fascinating photo of a Korean airliner shot down by Soviets 30 years ago and new details therein.
• We didn’t get to play with underwater robotics when we were in high school, grumble grumble.

• A tip for Tuffy stalkers: We post in the morning for SPORTSbyBROOKS, give you a nooner here, and try to toss in an afternoon idea each week day.  Tuesdays and Fridays, we cast pods.  Fridays are also Voodoo Sabernomics days.  Tildes and golf posts come as we may.  (For example, see today’s Question of the Day.) We hope this helps you schedule your bathroom breaks accordingly.
• More on the RBI Baseball comeback.  We hope it goes better than Rickey’s.
• Chicago moves on in the 2016 Olympic competition that has absolutely nothing to do with sports and everything to do with money.  Just like how the IOC likes it.
• Mike Gottfried doesn’t owe us such a raw explanation of his charitable activities, but it’s refreshing nonetheless.
• Joe Posnanski boils down the problems with Presidential election coverage into one burning question: whatever happened to that apple salad I liked so much at Applebee’s? Ladies and gentlemen, that’s the best insight into the mind of a sportswriter you’ll likely ever see.
• We’ve been wondering this same question: why bother trying to be drafted into the NBA’s second round when you can go to Europe instead? Except we’ve been wondering, “why bother with one-and-done when you can get paid in Europe and skip college entirely”?
• Baseball nerds will enjoy this.  We watched the video at MLB.tv after reading this piece and agreed completely.
• Michael Kay interviews Snoop Dogg.  The cameras at YES must be industrial-strength to handle both stunning talents in the same shot.  We’re not sure if this blog has been rated as such by OSHA, so no video today.

Welcome to the New Icebox

Months in the making, hours in the chilling… it’s the new Refrigerator Logic.  Settle in and don’t play with the ice machine!  (Oh, and please update your bookmarks, blogrolls, and secret shrines accordingly.)

Please note the new features of this shiny new cooler.  First, on the right, all of my world conquest targets are listed at the top.  (Almost all.)

The latest Treehouse Fort can always be played from the right sidebar as well, for those of you looking for an aural experience.

Next, my practice Twittering for the last month or two has finally reached a semi-useful level. Therefore, you can see bon mots populating the right hand side from time to time.

On a more regular basis, you can now find a convenient place for all my offsite work.  I will no longer clutter the main page with daily bullet lists; all my work will appear on the right as soon as it’s published.  If you click on the li’l orange fella at the top of that box, you can even add that link to your handy RSS feeder so you have Tuffy with you at all times.  (It’s okay; I’m a cheap date.)

Finally, the new blogroll certainly has sites missing.  This is because I am an idiot.  Please let me know if I have forgotten you.
